Issues with Urbemis

Version 9.2.4

Urbemis2007 version 9.2.0 was released in June, 2007, version 9.2.2 was released in September, 2007, and version 9.2.4 was released in February, 2008. The issues resolved and enhancements added in the 9.2.4 version are:

Changes to Default Files:

  • All default files have been changed to reflect corrected trip rates for fast food with drive through and fast food without drive through.
  • All default files have the new enhanced data structures for implementing Named Equipment Lists.

Changes to Emission Calculations:

  • If 23 content tabs had been opened, the program reported an error. This has been corrected.
  • The Vehicle Fleet mix occasionally did not change correctly when the year was changed. This was related to turning on and off the checkbox for keeping the fleet locked when the year changed. Also, the fleet mix that was displayed at the time the project was created was not always coordinated with the default year of the newly created project. The year of a new project is the current date plus 18 months. These issues have been corrected.
  • When opening Urbemis, if the user double clicked the icon more than once, an error occurred. The program now attempts to grab the second request to open, and waits until the first instance has successfully opened.
  • The Area Mitigation form was not correctly unloading under certain situations. This error had been introduced when the San Joaquin Valley wood stove rules were implemented. The forms now open and close correctly for all regions.
  • Only in the 'Print Selected Reports', the sum of Area and Operational was incorrect. It was reporting the sum of Area twice. The report has been corrected.
  • The removal of the checkmark to 'Save, without asking when closing' did not stick; it always reverted back to being on. The setting of the checkmark is now retained after closing.

Other Changes:

  • The Named Equipment List module has been added.
  • When attempting to download Emfac databases, if a connection cannot be made a blank download form appears so that the user may view the suggestions under the 'Proxy Server Issues' button.

Version 9.2.2

The issues resolved and enhancements added in the 9.2.2 version are:

Changes to Default Files:

  • Imperial Valley has changes in their default file. If you installed the Imperial Valley Emfac database, which includes their default file, prior to 9/5/2007, you need to uninstall the older version and download the new version. In addition, any projects based on the old default file need to be recreated.
  • San Joaquin Valley, and all of its counties, have new fireplace/wood stove rules in their default file. If you installed the San Joaquin Valley Emfac databases, which includes their default file, you need to uninstall the older version and download the new version. In addition, any projects based on the old default file need to be recreated.

Changes to Emission Calculations:

  • In construction emission calculations, the model incorrectly used Commercial-based Customer instead of Commercial-based Commute for commercial trip lengths. If the Commercial-based Customer and Commercial-based Commute trip lengths vary in your project, we recommend you open your project in 9.2.2 and 'Recalc' the results.
  • For the Building Construction phase, vendor trips was using worker trip lengths and it should have been using commercial trip lengths. If your project has a Building Construction phase we recommend you open your project in 9.2.2 and 'Recalc' the results.
  • The construction exhaust equipment module returned zero emissions for years greater than 2020. It now returns the 2020 values for all years beyond 2020. If you have a project that extends to 2020 or beyond we recommend you open your project in 9.2.2 and 'Recalc' the results.
  • The acreage associated with parks has been removed from the architectural coating square footage for Area Source and Construction Coating calculations. If you have a project that includes Parks we recommend you open your project in 9.2.2 and 'Recalc' the results.
  • In construction emissions the model automatically assumed a phase length of 22.5 days for soil hauling within mass and fine site grading. Urbemis has been revised to use the correct phase length for soil hauling calculations.

Other Changes:

  • A new method of obtaining Emfac databases has been created for those users with proxy server issues. A button has been added to the 'Download Emfac Files' form that gives a text box describing how to use a web page to download the files.
  • 'Print Selected Annual Results' printed the summer/winter emissions for construction, not the annual. And it listed the daily mitigation, not the annual. This has been corrected.
  • On reports sent to the printer, columns that have been turned off still print as blank columns causing blank pages to print. We have condensed the print and all columns should now fit on a single, landscape oriented page (for most printers).
  • For non-residential land uses, acreages are estimated on the land use form, which can be overridden by the user.
  • For 'blank' land uses (those on the last tab, where you fill in all of the information), there is now an ;other' option for Unit Type.
  • Silt Loading (Operational Paved Road Dust Emissions) now allows 3 digits to the right of the decimal.
  • Natural Gas Usage values now allow 2 digits to the right of the decimal.
  • Area Source Consumer Product's pounds of Rog (per person) now allows 4 digits to the right of the decimal (requested by San Joaquin APCD).
  • The behavior for all construction equipment has been changed. The default behavior is to have the equipment amounts and hours operated automatically be updated when land use amounts change. In 9.2.0 a user might leave this 'updating behavior' in place, but manually change amounts. However, the next time the project is loaded, it will reset the equipment amounts back to the values calculated based on the land use values. This resulted in the appearance of the model giving different results after it was reopened. To avoid this, the user can no longer edit the equipment amounts when the 'update with land uses' option is selected.
  • Another issue with the 'update with land uses' that has been corrected applies to Fine Site Grading, Mass Site Grading, and Paving equipment. The equipment page indicated that amounts should be modified when there were changes in land use amounts. Because these phases allow the user to modify the acreage that should be used for the equipment calculations, the model should only have allowed changes to equipment when the acreage on the 'Daily Acreage' or the 'Off Gas Emissions' tab changed. By default, these tabs allowed changes in land use amounts to automatically modify their values, which in turn caused equipment amounts to be based on that acreage number. To make it clear how the flow works, the title on the equipment column now states 'Reset When Acreage Changes'. To be consistent, all equipment phases have the same title. For phases other than Fine Site Grading, Mass Site Grading, and Paving equipment, it is the change in the acreage on the Land Use form that triggers the updating of equipment amounts.
  • Trenching equipment was not being correctly notified when land use acreage changed. This has been corrected.
  • If the configuration file was modified to point to a different file location, and those locations did not exist, the model used the default locations. There is now a warning message that indicates the default location will be used.
  • When Emfac databases were removed, the model did not delete the physical files. It just removed them from the list of available databases. The databases are now deleted.
  • The model now checks that Operational Double Counting not be over the maximum allowed whenever land use values change.
  • The installation routine inadvertently included a bracket at the end of the folder name. If the old version is deleted, and the new version installed, the bracket is removed.
  • After using the 'Modify Project Setting' form, a project would not close correctly. This has been fixed.
  • A cancel option has been added to the Project Save dialog box.
